Valley Girl

I picked up this tomato seeding at our local farmer's market yesterday.  The variety is "Valley Girl" -- I found myself choosing tomato varieties thinking ahead to still life paintings I can create with them when they bear fruit!  I got yellow "Sungold"... orange "Jaune Flamme"... and a few others. "Valley Girl" will produce plain old red ones.  I look forward to them all!

Lilies of the Valley

oil on artist panel 6x6 inches
SOLD

Good afternoon!  I wanted to capture these beautiful, fragrant lilies of the valley before they were gone for the season (they're on the edge!), so I cut some and brought them inside my studio to paint.  After I post this and clean my brushes, they'll come into the house with me to enjoy for a few more days.

Hostas by the Fence

oil on artist panel 6x6 inches
SOLD

Another sunny day!  I like this little clump of hostas in my yard... they add a cool note underneath the lilacs by the fence...

I had my first Etsy sale yesterday!  The birdbath painting I painted yesterday wasn't online for two hours before it was snapped up — very exciting!

Birdbath by the Pool

oil on artist panel 6x6 inches
SOLD

Hello!  What a beautiful day here in Brimfield, Massachusetts -- the sun is shining, the sky is blue... FINALLY!  I took advantage of this great weather to do a painting of our birdbath that is by the side of our pool -- I love this birdbath, it's so beautiful and really classes up the yard.  ;^)  It was fun to paint.

One note:  I purchased 24 6x6 Ampersand artist panels last week -- this is the first painting on one of those panels -- I love this size!  No wonder so many artists paint 6x6 for their daily work -- it's just right.  There are many different profiles (depths) of artist panels -- the ones I'm using are 3/4", they are cradled and made of birch.  When the paintings are dry, I plan on waxing the sides to bring out the wood -- no need for framing!  I also have put a sawtooth hanger on the top of the panel so it's easy to hang.  I'll post a picture of the final waxed sides and the back (to show the hanger) once this painting is dry and I've waxed it -- I can't wait to see how it will look!

Memorial Day weekend is coming up -- and we Malones are plan-free -- hence and therefore... I'll have time to paint!  Yay!  Hope you check back in to see what I've done.  Thanks for looking!

It's STILL raining out, so I cut some lilacs and brought them in my studio
to paint.  The forecast looks pretty wet for the next few days, maybe by next
week I'll be able to paint outdoors again?

It's raining outside today — so even though the lilacs and bleeding hearts are blooming in my yard, begging to be painted, I had to paint indoors.  I decided to submit a painting to one of the Daily Paintworks Challenges — the "Paint Your Vegetable Challenge" to be exact.  Daily Paintworks is such a great site — so inspiring to see all the beautiful work created by such talented artists everyday!
